Bishop Clemence Otieno (OACT)
September 16, 2019
We first met Clemence Otieno in November 2015, walking home to Musoma on the road north of Mwanza. He had wanted to visit all the congregations in Tanzania that God had placed under his care. He had no funds so he walked and prayed for rides along the way. We offered him a ride and as we drove along and he spoke of his very challenging journey, a few things became very clear. This man loves God. This man loves God’s people. This man submits to the authority of God as it is communicated through Scripture. Clemence's life is a testament to his willingness to sacrifice everything to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone. As he spoke that day, his love, trust, and obedience to God were evident.
It was only after we had parted following that initial meeting on the road to Musoma that we learned Clemence was "Bishop-Elect Clemence." He is now Bishop of the Orthodox Anglican Church Tanzania (OACT). The Bishop has a heart for poor, marginalized and vulnerable people. The ministries under his care serve women and children in rural communities. He has recently begun ministry to community camps for the disabled and those suffering with leprosy.
