Whom shall I fear?

9th day of Advent December 11th, 2017 Psalm 27

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”

This week we are contemplating the peace we know as we live for God. What is this notion of Peace in Christ? In John 14, Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful." In the world, we live such distracted lives. Our life choices center on ourselves and the things we want. We seek first the things of this world to gratify personal desires. We worry, demand, battle and manipulate when things are not going our way. We are constantly seeking happiness, gratification, fulfillment, and glory in the things Jesus says are passing away. Jesus clearly tells us that His peace is not the peace promised in the world. So why are we so deaf to His Word? Many of us call ourselves Christian. We want to believe that what we are doing is leading us to heaven. Yet we feel no peace. The doctrines and truths which we manufacture to ease our minds, calm our hearts and gratify our lusts fail us. There is no peace apart from Jesus. True peace can only be found within the will of God. In God's will, nothing this world puts before us will disturb us - sure there will be storms, chaos, turmoil, trials, and suffering; but in Christ, nothing can disturb the peace He gives. Christ's peace passes all understanding; it is peace found only in the true knowledge of Him.

"Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence" 2 Pet.1:2-3.

The Bible is clear. We are not alone - God goes before us and is always present with us. The witness we bear, praising God even (perhaps especially) in the storms speaks more than words to those who do not yet know Jesus.

When the Lord is our Light and our salvation, we know His peace.

Be blessed
